Collection Access and Use

The Archives & Records Management Office (A&RM) of the Diocese of St. Augustine is a private institutional archive and its collections fall into one of three categories: open, restricted, or closed. Most collections are open for research and available to the general public with no restrictions. Sometimes, portions of a collection are restricted, and not generally open to the public without the express permission of the Bishop, Chancellor, and/or Director of A&RM. A few collections are closed and contain material that can only be accessed by the Bishop, Chancellor, Office of origin, or Director of A&RM. Some closed collections are open to the public after a period of time has passed. In general, Bishops administrative records are opened 50 years after his death, once they are fully processed by A&RM staff. Personal papers and other non-administrative records collections are open once they are fully processed, unless specified otherwise.

Staff are working to more comprehensively describe and catalog collections. See the Collections tab for more information.

Planning a Visit to the Archives

Due to temporary space reorganization, the Archives of the Diocese of St. Augustine is not open to the public at the time. A notification will be posted here when we have space to host researchers again.

Research Services

For a fee, staff will provide research services to those unable to visit the Archives. Please send us a Paid Research Request Form for research questions and a Sacramental Information Request Form for genealogical research services (see Sacramental Records Requests for more information on genealogy). Once we receive a signed form and your fee, we can get to work! Due to limited staff, we require at least 6 to 8 weeks to complete any research.
