The following section provides key resources and insights to help you understand and engage with the Jubilee of Hope 2025. From Pope Francis’s foundational document, Spes Non Confundit, to reflections from Bishop Erik Pohlmeier and practical guides from the USCCB, these materials offer a comprehensive overview of the Jubilee’s theme, purpose and opportunities for spiritual renewal.

What is a Jubilee Year?

A Jubilee Year is a sacred time of renewal, rooted in biblical tradition. The name comes from yobel, the ram’s horn used to proclaim the Jewish Jubilee, a time of forgiveness and restoration every 50 years (cf. Leviticus 25:8-13). Jesus echoed this in his mission to bring liberty and healing (Luke 4:18-19).

The Church’s first Holy Year was declared in 1300, and Jubilees now occur every 25 years, with special ones like the 2015 Year of Mercy. In 2025, Pope Francis calls us to be “Pilgrims of Hope,” deepening our faith and living the Gospel. Learn more about Jubilee 2025

Spes Non Confundit, the Bull of Indiction for the Jubilee Holy Year 2025 – this papal document lays out the foundation for the 2025 Jubilee and its theme, “Pilgrims of Hope.
