College students from across the state and in some instances, the country, took part in a faith growing diocese retreat hosted by the Office of Human Life & Dignity at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre De Dios in St. Augustine March 28.
Mass at the Rustic Altar on the grounds was celebrated to start the day followed by various talks from renowned national speaker Jeff Joaquin with his presentation on “Lost Fatherhood,” and a special presentation by Bishop Erik Pohlmeier on how to be an unwavering champion of human dignity to every person in college and beyond as one navigates life’s path.
For Joaquin it was the second time that he had been a featured speaker and partnered with the Office of Human Life & Dignity for an event in the last 12 months.
It was a time for reflection on the role the students play in the world moving forward and the continued importance to strive to feel God’s presence in their daily lives.
As the day went along it got windier and colder, but it did not deter the students from spending time with God, as they started grabbed everything they could from blankets to beach towels by the end to stay warm, a true sign of their devotion to God.
There were moments during the retreat where the students had the opportunity to spend time with Bishop Pohlmeier and have more in-depth conversations with him, which proved to be memorable moments for those in attendance and exemplified the conversational and thought-provoking atmosphere of the retreat.
