A unique retreat day for college students will be held at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre De Dios in St. Augustine March 28 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The day will begin with Mass at the Rustic Altar celebrated by Father Matt King at 10:15 a.m. followed by a presentation on “Lost Fatherhood” by Jeff Joaquin.
“My goal for this retreat was to give back and recognize the incredible work that these college students do as pro-life advocates, especially amongst their peers on their campuses,” Office of Human Life & Dignity director Maureen Shilkunas said.
Various talks will take place in the afternoon after lunch, which will be provided, including a special presentation by Bishop Erik Pohlmeier on how to be an unwavering champion of human dignity to every person in college and beyond as one navigates life’s path.
According to Shilkunas, as the relationship has been built between the Diocese of St. Augustine and the colleges, she has seen firsthand the passion they have to advocate for those who cannot.
“They don’t just advocate, but they do it with such conviction,” she said.
Everyone in attendance will end the retreat by gathering to pray the rosary for pro-life in the world at the rosary garden on the shrine grounds.
Some of the colleges with students currently registered include the University of Florida, University of North Florida, Santa Fe College, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida State College at Jacksonville and there is even a student registered who attends Utah State University online.
There is no cost for college students to take part in the retreat, but space is limited and registration is mandatory to attend.
