Burmese-American Catholics Share Faith and Culture

The Burmese-American Catholic community of the diocese gathered with Bishop Erik Pohlmeier for Mass at San Jose Parish on Tuesday, Sept. 9. The liturgy, brought the Burmese community together in prayer and thanksgiving, reflecting their deep faith and devotion.

Following Mass, participants attended a reception with traditional songs, dances and food, offering a beautiful glimpse into Burmese Catholic culture.

The celebration was a joyful witness to the unity Catholics share in Christ and the bonds that draw us together in the Eucharist.

Just two weekends earlier, the 14th annual National Conference of Burmese-American Catholics was hosted in Jacksonville. Nearly 1,000 Catholics from across the country attended the Aug. 29-31 conference at Deerwood Castle in Jacksonville.

This year’s conference featured Bishop Bernard E. Shlesinger, auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Atlanta as the keynote speaker, and Father Remek Blaszkowski, pastor of San Jose Parish, addressed the conference participants on behalf of the diocese.
