The Ministry Formation Program (MFP) is a three-year process that helps form leaders for service in parishes and schools in the Diocese of St. Augustine. With a 34-year history, the MFP is a well-established and well-thought-out program that utilizes key Church documents to form the laity in the areas of spirituality, pastoral skills, human development and academics.

The more than 400 graduates of the program serve in many areas of the diocese in a variety of roles. The skills they acquired have helped them live out their baptismal call to “go and make disciples.” Erin Gawera, who is active in music ministry in the diocese, describes her experience as:

“The MFP is like standing in the breakers of a vast ocean. Your feet and knees are submerged in the depths of our faith, and waves of knowledge and tradition continually roll upon you. The beauty and richness of it all entices you to kneel and dive deeper. You’ll find yourself growing more in love with God, his people and, in a particular way, your own role in ministry.”

Nancy McDonald, a parishioner at St. Paul Parish, Jacksonville Beach, describes her time in the MFP:

“… it has been a true pilgrimage, one that has not only equipped me with valuable knowledge and skills but, most importantly, has ignited a deeper connection with my faith. The most significant lesson I learned is the vastness of God’s wisdom, and the journey of learning will never cease. I am also deeply grateful for the lasting bonds I’ve formed with my fellow travelers.”

Do you feel called to learn more about your faith? The Office of Christian Formation is offering five information sessions around the diocese to assist those considering furthering their formation. These sessions will help participants better understand what the MFP offers and discern if it fits their current needs.

Everyone is welcome to attend the sessions. RSVP is not required, but it is helpful for planning purposes. Respond to Brittany at layministry@dosafl.com.
