Bishop Erik Pohlmeier officially launched the Jubilee Year of Hope with a celebratory Mass at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine on Saturday, Dec. 28. The special Mass, part of Pope Francis’s call for the global Church to embrace hope as “Pilgrims of Hope,” was attended by parishioners and the many visitors in town for the famous “Nights of Lights” in St. Augustine. The Mass was made accessible to the faithful via livestream.
The Jubilee Year emphasizes the Church’s mission to bring hope and renewal to a divided world and highlights the call to communicate truth with charity and compassion. Drawing on Pope Francis’s message, Bishop Pohlmeier reminded the congregation of the importance of proclaiming the Gospel in ways that promote understanding and unity.
This Mass marks the first of many events planned throughout 2025 to encourage the faithful to live as witnesses of Christ’s love and mercy in their daily lives.
