The Music Department of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine is pleased to announce that the guest artist for the August 7 First Friday Art Walk Recital will be organist, Mr. William Douglas.
William Douglas is a rising senior at the University of South Carolina, where he studies with Dr. Jared Johnson in pursuit of the Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance. William also serves as the Music Associate and Organist at Shandon United Methodist Church in Columbia, South Carolina. Previously, William has served the parishes of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C. where he acted as the organist and choir director, and was the organist at St. John’s Anglican Church in Florence, S.C.
As an organist, William has been featured as an accompanist at the 2013 Regional American Guild of Organist Convention; was an organ scholar at the 2013 Charlotte course of the Royal School of Church Music where he accompanied the 120 voice choir; was the organist for the 2013 222nd Diocesan Convention for the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, and has participated in the Organ Institute at Westminster Choir College of Rider University. William has performed in masterclasses with various organists, including Janette Fishell (Chair Professor of Organ at Indiana University), Walden Moore (Professor of Liturgical Keyboard Skills at Yale), Jack Mitchener (Director of the Townsend-McAffe Institute of Church Music in Organ at Mercer University), Alan Morrison, Eric Plutz, Matthew Lewis, and Paolo Bordignon.
Mr. Douglas’ program will include the music of Joseph Bonnet, Gerre Hancock, Johann Sebastian Bach and Felix Alexandre Guilmant.
The Cathedral Basilica is located downtown at 38 Cathedral Place, across the street from the Plaza de la Constitution.
The Art Walk Recital begins at 6:00 p.m.
