Holy Days of Obligation
In 2026, the following will be observed as Holy Days of Obligation:
- Tuesday, December 8 – Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception [Patroness of the United States]
- Friday, December 25 – Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord
- Friday, January 1, 2027 – Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God
Please Note: In 2026, the Solemnity of the Assumption will occur on Saturday, August 15. In keeping with the 1992 decision of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (and confirmed by the Apostolic See) when this solemnity occurs on a Saturday or Monday the precept to participate at Mass is abrogated for the faithful.
As well, this year the Solemnity of All Saints occurs on Sunday, November 1. Therefore, the observance of this feast will replace the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time.
Finally, a reminder that the Solemnity of the Ascension is observed on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The Solemnity replaces the Seventh Sunday of Easter.
