The Year of Mission – An Outcome of the National Eucharistic Revival

By Erin McGeever

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) initiated the “Eucharistic Revival’ three years ago to help the faithful deepen their faith and understanding about the source and summit of the faith – the Eucharist. They hosted the first national Eucharistic Congress in 83 years in July 2024.

More than 50,000 people attended this event, and they were given the commission by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, “We have received the gift of Jesus, let us go proclaim Jesus zealously and joyfully for the life of the world.” Among his many titles, Cardinal Tagle is the Pro-Prefect of the Section for the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches of the Dicastery for Evangelization for the Vatican, Gran Chancellor of the Pontifical University Urbaniana and archbishop emeritus of Manila, Philippines.

In sending out the faithful as Eucharistic Missionaries, the cardinal, the USCCB and the Eucharistic Congress organizers are providing resources to help us on stay focused on this Year of Mission.

As for each year of the revival, a playbook has been provided to parish leadership in various languages entitled, “The National Eucharistic Revival Year of Mission Playbook – July 2024 to June 2025.”

The playbook outlines four pillars for the mission:  Eucharistic Encounter, Eucharistic Identity, Eucharistic Life and Eucharistic Mission. A specific program that the USCCB initiated before the National Eucharistic Congress, and for which now provide a structure is the, Welcome With One outreach. This simple 4-step, Spirit-led accompaniment guide is free to download. Visit

Prayer is a vital part of this process and so, a recently added resource is Eucharistic Examen.
