Jubilee Year 2025 Events in the Diocese of St. Augustine

The Jubilee Year 2025 is a time of grace and renewal, inviting us to deepen our faith and embrace hope. Each event celebrates a unique aspect of our shared journey as Pilgrims of Hope. Bishop Erik Pohlmeier has named a steering committee to lead the diocesan efforts and ensure our celebrations align as closely as possible with the Vatican’s Jubilee schedule. We will continue updating this schedule as details become available from the event coordinators.

Jubilee Events Calendar for the Vatican

We commemorate the Jubilee of the Sick and Healthcare Workers, honoring the resilience of the sick and the dedication of healthcare professionals. Join us in prayer for healing and strength for the ill, and in gratitude for those who provide compassionate care.  The celebration begins with a 7:30 a.m. sunrise Mass at the Rustic Altar of Mission Nombre de Dios, celebrated by Bishop Erik Pohlmeier. A breakfast will follow in the Pilgrim Center, featuring guest speaker Angeli Maun Akey, M.D., who will present “Seeing Jesus in Those Who Are Suffering.” A Q&A session with Dr. Akey and Dr. Jason Phillips of the Florida Medical Association will follow. This event is coordinated by Ann Varner of Ascension St. Vincent’s. For more information, contact ann.varner@ascension.org. Click here for the event flyer. Click here for the Pastoral Guide.

Teens, join us for “Encounter Christ: A Night of Faith, Worship and Community” — an evening of prayer, reflection and fellowship. The night begins with Mass at the Rustic Altar celebrated by Father Mac Hill, followed by a Eucharistic procession honoring soon-to-be Saint Carlo Acutis. Maggie Craig will share a message of hope during XLT, a powerful time of Eucharistic adoration with worship led by Matthew Crews. The evening concludes with Benediction, leaving hearts renewed in faith. For details, contact Robin Shipley at rshipley@dosafl.com or (904) 262-3200, ext. 189. Click here for a flyer.

Join us for this Jubilee of Hope event honoring St. Joseph the Worker. This event invites all workers across the diocese, especially those on the margins, to come together in a joyful celebration. The day will focus on the virtues of St. Joseph and the Church’s social teachings, highlighting the dignity of labor and the value of every person. The program will feature a multicultural procession, reflections, music, testimonies with summaries in multiple languages, and a presentation by Nancy Rivera of Catholic Relief Services. Participants will also be invited to make a personal commitment inspired by St. Joseph to uphold the dignity of work and live out their faith with love, compassion and mercy. Pope Francis, in preparation for the Jubilee, reminds us that “work is an essential expression of human dignity” and calls on all people to recognize the importance of labor as a means of serving the common good and building a more just and fraternal society. This celebration offers an opportunity to respond to the pope’s call to honor the value of every worker, especially those who are most vulnerable. The coordinator of the event is Norma Garcia and can be reached at ngarcia@dosafl.com or call (904) 353-3243. Click the link for a Save the Date in English or Spanish.

The celebration honors the unique gifts and contributions of individuals with disabilities. Their presence enriches our community. Let us strive for inclusiveness and support, ensuring everyone feels valued and welcomed. More details to come. For details, contact Anita Hassell at ahassell@ccbdosa.orgthe coordinator of this event. Join us in recognizing the role of business leaders in serving the common good. Pope Francis reminds us that entrepreneurs are “a primary engine of development and prosperity” and that “every new job created is shared wealth.” This event will include Mass, an extended Adoration, followed by a picnic lunch and witness talks by those who have encountered hope in their professional lives. There will also be small group discussions. All business professionals and entrepreneurs are invited to participate. Let’s renew our commitment to ethical entrepreneurship this Jubilee year! For more details, email Mel Rio at melnard.rio@gmail.com, the event coordinator.

Celebrate the power of music in faith and community at the Jubilee of Musical Bands! Enjoy performances by the high school bands of Bishop Kenny and Bishop John Snyder, along with talented middle school musicians. The concerts will be at Bishop Kenny High School, 1055 Kingman Ave., Jacksonville (32207). Pope Francis reminds us that “a concert is a beautiful parable, a parable of harmony” that reflects the unity the Church strives to embody. His 2015 album “Wake Up!” blended prayers with diverse musical styles, highlighting music’s role in spiritual life. This Jubilee honors those insights, showcasing the richness of musical expression in worship and fellowship. All musicians, choir members and music lovers are invited to join this joyful celebration. For more details, email Andrew Peterson at andrewpeterson@bishopsnyder.org, the event coordinator.

The Offices of Family Life and Human Life and Dignity are thrilled to announce: “Family Fest,” a celebration of the Jubilee of Families, Children, Grandparents and the Elderly on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche. “Family Fest” will be a delightful day of fun and spiritual enrichment to kick off summer that will include activities for all ages, including games, a petting zoo, a Catholic market, talks and music from national Catholic speakers, and the sacraments. It’s also a great opportunity for pilgrimage and obtaining a plenary indulgence this Jubilee year!

Join us at the ballpark on Saturday, June 7 for a Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp baseball game. This event is a wonderful opportunity to come together in the spirit of fellowship and enjoy the unifying power of sports. Pope Francis has often highlighted the profound impact of sports on society. He emphasizes that sports serve as a means of encounter and fraternity, fostering unity, respect and joy within the community. Coordinating this event is the Diocesan Office of Communications. For more details, email Kimberly Whiting at kwhiting@dosafl.com.

The Jubilee of Catechists honors those devoted to teaching and spreading the faith. All catechists, clergy and ministries are invited to participate in the annual Faith Formation Day where there will be a featured keynote speaker followed by workshops. Bishop Erik Pohlemeier will celebrate Mass. Together, let us support and pray for these dedicated educators as they continue to guide others in faith.

As we conclude the Jubilee Year, join us for the solemn “Closing of the Holy Door” ceremony, symbolizing the end of this sacred time of grace and renewal. Let us reflect on the spiritual growth we’ve experienced and carry forward the hope and commitments we’ve embraced as “Pilgrims of Hope.”
