The Office of Christian Formation will host the 41st Annual Faith Formation Day on Saturday, Oct. 4, at Bishop John J. Snyder High School in Jacksonville. The event is open to everyone and offers something for all levels of formation.
The day begins with Mass at 8:30 a.m. celebrated by Bishop Erik Pohlmeier, followed by a light breakfast and keynote address by Dr. Gerardo Sálazar, sponsored by Sadlier Religion Publishing. Dr. Sálazar holds degrees in journalism, theology and ministry, and Hispanic Catechetical Leadership. He is a national consultant for Sadlier and senior lecturer in theology at the University of St. Thomas. His keynote will focus on the Catechetical Sunday theme, “Always Be Ready to Give an Explanation…for a Reason for Your Hope” (1 Pt 3:15).

Workshops will be offered throughout the day, including:
- A clergy-only session with Bishop Erik Pohlmeier on cultivating evangelizing catechesis in the parish
- A workshop in Spanish with Dr. Sálazar on La catequesis en clave evangelizadora; catequizar evangelizando (Evangelizing Catechesis)
- Sessions on the Nicene Creed led by Father Jhon Guarnizo (English) and Father Cristian Cardenas (Spanish)
- An all-day adult faith formation opportunity, Hope in the Word of God, with Dr. Jack Daniels
- Two workshops with Dr. Gene Bebeau and Patricia Moore Pastides on Christian meditation with children and helping adults embrace the practice
- Certification sessions on the Role of the Catechist (Samantha Matthews) and Scripture (Pat Cook)
- Practical tips for engaging families in faith formation with Denise Pressley, offered in both morning and afternoon sessions
Registration is available individually for $40 or in groups of four from one location for $120 and the deadline to register is Sept. 29. The fee includes light breakfast, lunch and access to all talks. Walkups are welcome the day off the event with a fee of $50 per person, but there is no guarantee of materials or food.
