Voices of Hope: Interfaith Leaders Gather for Jubilee Year Event

As part of the Jubilee Year of Hope, the Diocese of St. Augustine is hosting Voices of Hope: An Interfaith Gathering for the Jubilee Year on Sunday, July 27, at 1 p.m. at the Pilgrim Center of the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios, 101 San Marco Ave. in St. Augustine.

Sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Christian Formation in collaboration with OneJax, the event brings together religious leaders from various faith traditions to share how they find and sustain hope in today’s world. The gathering will begin with a time of welcome and prayer, followed by a panel discussion moderated by the Rev. Rebekah McLeod Hutto, director of Interfaith and Cultural Programs for OneJax.

Panelists include Bishop Erik T. Pohlmeier of the Diocese of St. Augustine; Rabbi Merrill Shapiro, founding president of the St. Augustine Jewish Historical Society; Dr. Holly Nadji of the Baha’i Community; the Rev. Dr. Priscilla B. Durkin of Memorial Presbyterian Church; and Sukhbir Singh, co-founder of the Sikh Society of Northeast Florida.

In his message for the Jubilee Year, Pope Francis reminds us, “Hope is given to us… to protect the capacity to dream and to give birth to new ways of living together.” The interfaith gathering echoes this vision by lifting up voices across traditions that inspire unity, compassion and shared purpose.

Erin McGeever, director of Christian Formation for the diocese and host of the event, said the gathering will “offer a meaningful witness of how people of different faiths can come together not only in dialogue but in mutual encouragement and hope.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Erin McGeever at emcgeever@dosafl.com or call (904) 262-3200, ext. 118.  Click here for a promotional flyer.
