May 1 Prayer Vigils to Coincide with Florida Execution

Florida is scheduled to carry out its fourth execution of 2025 on Thursday, May 1. Jeffrey Hutchinson is set to be executed for the 1998 murders of Renee Flaherty and her three children—Geoffrey, Amanda and Logan. He was convicted in Okaloosa County for one of the most horrific crimes in the state’s recent history.

This marks the fourth execution in Florida this year, following the deaths of James Ford (Feb. 13), Edward James (March 20) and Michael Tanzi (April 8). Two additional executions are scheduled for later in May.

As people of faith, we are called to pray for the dignity of every human life—those sentenced to death, those who suffer from violence, and those who carry out the state’s decisions. On May 1, the following parishes and chapels will host Eucharistic Adoration to offer prayers for mercy, healing and justice:
