As part of the Jubilee Year 2025 – Pilgrims of Hope, the Vatican has designated special days to honor those who bring hope and healing to the world. All those who are sick and healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, volunteers in the health sector, pastoral health workers, etc.) are particularly invited to this jubilee event, together with their families. (On April 12-13, the weekend of Palm Sunday), the Church will observe the Jubilee for the Sick and Healthcare Workers, recognizing the dignity, strength and faith of those who suffer illness and those who care for them.
A Message from Pope Francis
Pope Francis reminds us in his message for the 33rd World Day of the Sick:
“We are celebrating the 33rd World Day of the Sick in the Jubilee Year 2025, in which the Church invites us to become ‘pilgrims of hope.’ The word of God accompanies us and offers us, in the words of Saint Paul, an encouraging message: ‘Hope does not disappoint’ (Rom 5:5); indeed, it strengthens us in times of trial.”
The Holy Father’s words are especially poignant in light of his own health struggles. His witness encourages us to embrace the hope that comes from God, even in the midst of suffering. The full message can be read at: Vatican Press Office.
