On Veteran’s Day, we honor the brave men and women who have faithfully served our nation, defending our freedoms. On behalf of the faith community of the Diocese of St. Augustine, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our veterans and their families. May you find comfort in God’s promise that he is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
May you also feel the appreciation and warmth of a grateful nation that celebrates not only your sacrifices but also the strength and resilience you embody.
As we give thanks, we recognize the challenges many veterans face upon returning to civilian life. Wounds that are not always visible—such as post-traumatic stress, mental health struggles and the challenges of reintegration—remain with them. As people of faith, we are called to support and accompany them on these journeys, creating communities of true healing and respect.
Let us honor our veterans not only in words and prayer but also in our commitment to standing beside them in solidarity.
Yours in Christ,
Most Rev. Erik T. Pohlmeier
Bishop of St. Augustine
