Journey to the Heart of Faith

Local Catholics Prepare for the National Eucharistic Congress

More than one hundred people from the Diocese of St. Augustine are eagerly preparing to join Catholics from across the nation at the much-anticipated five-day National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, from July 17-21. The church has dedicated the past three years to reconsecrating the hearts of the faithful to the Eucharist.

A Eucharistic Congress is a gathering of clergy, religious and laity to bear witness to the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, promote a deeper understanding and devotion to the Eucharist, and foster a greater unity among Catholics. This event holds significant importance as it strengthens the faith of attendees and revitalizes parishes and communities.

On June 5, the group gathered to celebrate Mass with Bishop Erik Pohlmeier in preparation for their pilgrimage. This historic event, expected to draw thousands of pilgrims, marks the first National Eucharistic Congress in 83 years. It is poised to be a pivotal moment in American history and the legacy of the Catholic Church.

Patty DiSandro, a member of the organizing committee, is thrilled about attending the upcoming Congress. She sees it as the culmination of prayer and communal efforts from people all over the country. For Patty, this will also be a multi-generational experience as she looks forward to attending with her 72-year-old mother and her 10-year-old daughter. She views the event as a personal pilgrimage, hoping to draw closer to Christ alongside her family while carrying the prayer intentions of many friends, colleagues, and family members.
