Dr. Michael Gannon edited the book and authored the opening essay on the early history of the Catholic Church in Florida. The book documents the Catholic Church as a major contributor in the cultural development of the State of Florida. It begins with the history of the Catholic Church from the first appearance of Catholic missionaries to arrive to Florida in 1521 to the contemporary church in 2005. The book includes short histories on each of the seven Catholic dioceses in Florida and articles on the Florida Council of Catholic Women and the Knights of Columbus.
